Vaccination Policy and Student Options

Dear Academic Challenge Students and Families,

As you may know, on January 21, 2022, Delaware Technical Community College issued an Immunization Policy Directive which stated “Effective April 20, 2022, all students enrolling in fall 2022 semester classes must provide proof that they are up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations prior to registration.”

After receiving feedback from students, the college issued a Revised COVID-19 Immunization Policy Directive for Online Students that states, “Students who exclusively enroll in programs or classes during the summer and fall 2022 semesters that are offered completely online are exempt from the COVID-19 Immunization Policy Directive dated Jan. 21, 2022, subject to the conditions and limitations that follow.”

To facilitate continued participation in Academic Challenge for all students, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, AC plans to provide online offerings for all sections of Fall Academic Challenge classes.

These are the options for AC students:

Attend In-Person. This will require either:

  • Students to submit proof of the student being up to date on the COVID-19 vaccine by April 20, 2022 so that we can register them for their choice of class(es).

    • For individuals 5-17 years of age, “up to date” means they have completed the primary series of COVID-19 vaccines.

    • For individuals 18 years of age or older, “up to date” means they have received all recommended doses for the vaccine they were administered, including boosters and additional primary shots for some immunocompromised people.

    • Information for how students can submit proof of vaccination will be coming directly from the college soon.

  • Students to apply for a religious or medical exemption.

    • Exemption requests must be submitted to Shannon Wright, Owens campus disabilities support counselor, at shannon.wright@dtcc.edu.

      • The religious exemption process and form can be found here. Religious Exemption forms may be submitted beginning March 1, 2022.

      • Medical Exemption requests and documentation should be submitted via email to the disabilities support counselor.

Attend Remotely.

  • Students will attend class via Zoom or by joining class via distance options at Delaware Tech. No proof of vaccination is required to attend remotely.

  • Unvaccinated students who are exempt from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement based on their online status must provide written certification of their agreement to the terms and limitations of the Revised COVID-19 Immunization Policy Directive for Online Students as a condition to enroll in summer or fall 2022 programs/classes.

  • Information for how students can submit written certification of their agreement to the terms and limitations of the revised policy will be coming directly from the college soon.

All DTCC COVID information and policy updates can be found at the website at: Coronavirus Update | Delaware Technical Community College (dtcc.edu).
