Summer SAT Workshops
SAT Grammar Practice COST: $25
Instructor: Mrs. Kim Brown
Time: Thursdays 9-11 am
Dates: July 11, 18, 25, and August 1 & 8
Communicating clearly requires a sound understanding of grammatical concepts and structures, and demonstrating this proficiency is an important part of the new digital SAT. This course will provide guided practice to help students develop and improve their skill and understanding of English grammar and usage. We will begin with a review of the basic parts of speech and sentence structure and then move into targeted grammar instruction based on student responses to sample SAT grammar questions. The class will meet for two hours once a week for five weeks and may include some work outside of class.
*The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar, Sixth Edition by Erica L. Meltzer must be purchased for this course.
All meetings will be held via Zoom
SAT Math Practice COST: $25
Instructor: Ms. Laura Quillen
Time: Mondays 6:30-8:30 pm
Dates: June 3, 11, 17, 24 & July 1
This course will equip students with test taking skills and experience to improve their score on the mathematics portion of the new digital SAT. We will review mathematical concepts that make up the largest percentage of the test but focus on strategies to help students get a better understanding of and confidence with the multiple choice style of questioning. Students will study sample SAT questions together for more than one path to solution, and will be provided sample full-length SAT mathematics sections to take and analyze for common areas of weakness with the help of the instructor.
SAT Reading Practice COST: $25
Instructor: Mrs. Kim Brown
Time: Wednesdays 9-11 am
Dates: July 10, 17, 24, 31 & August 7
This course will provide guided practice opportunities to help students improve their critical reading and analysis skills. These skills are vital not only for success on the new digital SAT, but also as important academic skills across all content areas. We will work with sample SAT reading passages to practice strategies for mastering multiple choice questions as well as refining the specific skills the SAT Reading section targets, such as understanding vocabulary in context, literal comprehension, reading for function, as well as analyzing charts and graphs. The class will meet for two hours once a week for five weeks and will include some work outside of class.
*The Critical Reader, Fifth Edition: The Complete Guide to SAT Reading by Erica Lynn Meltzer must be purchased for this course.
The charge for the workshop(s) will be added to your Delaware Tech account and should be paid through the Student Information System in the MyDTCC portal. If this charge is not paid, a hold will be put on the student's account preventing the AC office from registering the student for future classes.
Due to this financial component, we require a parent or guardian to sign the registration form electronically. The signature process will ask the parent/guardian to confirm their email address before we receive the form.
