Dear Academic Challenge Students and Parents,
Welcome back from summer! Please read this entire post and look at the linked documents and webpages for important information about the Fall semester.
Student Course Schedules: Fall 2024 schedules were emailed to students on August 2, 2024. Level 4 & 5 DTCC English and Math classes will begin the week of August 26, 2024. AC Level 4 & 5 Fall classes will meet in person on the day, time, and place designated on the Student Course Schedule. All classes will be held either in the Carter Partnership Center or in the Jason Technology Center. View the Delaware Tech Owens Campus Map for room locations.
Textbook Distribution: All Level 4 Oral Communications and Calc textbooks should be picked up at the AC office before or after class on the first day. Level 5 African American Lit textbooks will be distributed at the first class meeting. Level 5 Technical Writing and Statistics II do not have physical textbooks. Calculus III uses the Calc Textbook from Calc I & II.
Virtual Support: Remember that in-person tutoring is available located in the Stephen J. Betze library to all Academic Challenge students for all subjects. Tutoring support can be done on a drop-in basis during the center’s hours, or, for higher level math, an appointment can be made with a specific tutor. Students must present their DTCC ID when using the Center. Virtual tutoring is available via Zoom and can be accessed at the DTCC website: www.dtcc.edu/support. Also, be sure to communicate directly with your instructor if you find yourself struggling with your coursework. They want to help!
Withdrawal: If a Level 4 or 5 student needs to withdraw from a course, contact Ms. Dolan at edolan@dtcc.edu right away. If the student withdraws from a DTCC course after the first two weeks but before the official withdrawal date available on the DTCC Academic Calendar a “W”(Withdrawal) will be reported on the transcript and the class will not be included in DTCC GPA calculations. If a student stops attending class but neglects to officially withdraw, a “U” (Unofficial Withdrawal), which is calculated into the GPA as a failing grade, will be reported on the transcript.
Communication: The Academic Challenge office will continue to communicate with students and parents through the email addresses on file. If you would like to add to or change an email address in our records, email academic-challenge@dtcc.edu. All instructor contact information is located in the D2L course online. Also consult the AC website, where the most current information about AC is available. You can sign up to get an email whenever we post a new announcement by clicking on the Log in/Sign up button at the top of the page.
Finally, do not hesitate to contact me (edolan@dtcc.edu), Ms. Sorensen (academic-challenge@dtcc.edu), or your instructor if you have any questions about your Fall courses. We look forward to a great semester in Academic Challenge!
Sincerely,
Liza Dolan
